On November 24, 1971, a man known as D.B. Cooper hijacked a Northwest Orient Airlines flight between Portland and Seattle. He demanded $200,000 and four parachutes, released the passengers in Seattle, and then jumped from the rear stairway of the Boeing 727 into the night. Despite decades of investigation, his identity and fate remain unknown, making it the only unsolved hijacking in U.S. history.
